Week 9 Thing 23

I did it! I finally made it through all 23 things. This program has been very eye-opening for me. I never knew all of this was out there - and still wouldn't if it were not for this course. I was not able to delve as deeply into many of the things as I would have liked to, but I do plan on going back and digging around some more. The things that I found most useful include del.icio.us, Zoho Writer, and podcasts. My goal for this next school year is to introduce one thing to my students each 6-weeks.

I have learned so much from this course and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about the web.

I really enjoyed exploring these ebook and audio book sites. I love classic literature, and a lot of my favorite authors are in the public domain. Yea! Great resource to use with struggling readers.

Podcasts seem like a great way to present information to and get presentations from students and. They eat up anything to do with technology. One podcast I am going to try to incorporate into my curriculum this year is SpanishPod101.

I never knew there are so many videos out there. I have never personally been to YouTube before today. I liked the TeacherTube site better, of course, being a teacher. So much available - I hope I can find the time to really go through it all. I love the Top Ten list!

LibraryThing is a great tool to organize your personal or classroom library. I want to try to catalog my classroom library with tags so my students can find other books on the same topic. I also love the review and recommendation features of this site.

Zoho Writer is great! I try to make a class newsletter to send home each month, but it has been tedious in the past having to email various drafts to my partners for any additions or other changes until it is just how we want it. This site will eliminate all of that. YEA!

Week 7 Things 16 & 17

I love the idea of using wikis for literature circles. I am trying to work more literature, both fiction and nonfiction, into my Social Studies classes, and this will be a great way to do it.

I love the comic book explaining copyrighting and creative commons. It is a very informative read. A lot of material may be protected, but there is still so much out there that is available to everyone.

I don't know about the rest of you out there, but Technorati just about put me into information overload. It's going to take some time to find my way through all of this stuff. But, since it is now summer, I've got the time to spend. Wish me luck.

I love del.icio.us! This is my favorite thing so far. I have often been frustrated in the past when I realized that I totally forgot about a certain website during a unit of study because it was lost in a rather lengthy list of favorites. Now, I can simply click on my tag and... POOF! there are all of my favorites on any given topic. No more forgetting!

I'm not too sure about Rollyo yet. I've played around with it a little, but haven't created many searchrolls. I'm going to try to categorize and put my "favoites" that are bookmarked on my computer into searchrolls. Maybe then I'll be able to remember all that I have. Sometimes I forget what I have bookmarked until that particular unit is over.

I looked at several sites, but the one that really interests me the most is Lulu. You can publish your own books at this site. This could be a great project for a writing class and the parents and other family members could buy a copy. On a personal note, my daughter has started at least 10 different books of her own. If she ever finishes one...who knows? I might be able to retire early.

I love the comic strip generator. The possibilities are endless! I made this one during one of those "wishful thinking" moments. I think most of you will agree.

Week 4 Things 8 & 9

The RSS feeds are interesting. I never knew anything like this existed. I have added several to my account to keep on top of current events. O even figured out how to add a "This Day in History" post to my blog sidebar. Now I don't have to look it up each day - it's already there waiting for me. I love it!

Week 1 Thing 2

I guess that one of the hardest habits for me would be to start with the end in mind. Setting the goal is not the main problem, it's keeping that goal and not constantly changing it. I know it is OK to tweak your goals from time to time, but I seem to give mine a complete overhaul. I am going to start focusing on this habit and see if I can improve.
I would have to say that the easiest habit for me would be to create a learning toolbox. I have a scrapbooking toolbox, a sewing toolbox, a technology toolbox, as well as several others in various locations around my house. Whenever I get an opportunity to pursue one of my interests, I know I can go to that location and everything I need is right there - no searching required.

I had a great time exploring Flickr. There are so many creative things you can do with your pictures now days. I created this trading card uploading a picture from my class when we studied inertia. The kids had fun and love the trading card idea. I am going to make one for each student to help them remember what inertia is.

Well, I created a blog and imported my avatar. All of this is very new to me, but I think I'm catching on fairly easily. I am excited about learning new ways to incorporate these technologies into my classroom. The kids will love them!
